On Saturday 18th August 2012, a day blessed with glorious weather, Crawley Horticultural Society held a celebration for members and their guests to commemorate its Diamond Jubilee. Sixty glorious years.
Marquees had been erected in the Society’s garden and gaily decorated with banners and balloons. Tables and chairs were available for people to use and also to meet friends past and present. Each table was finely decorated with a floral centrepiece. See the pictures here of all the work that went in to setting up for the celebration.
The hall had also been nicely decorated and a display of some of the Society’s history, with newspaper cuttings, posters and show programmes was on the main stage. Several of the groups had also put on a display showing some of their exhibits for the particular group.
Food and drink was plentiful, with the usual welcoming sandwiches and cakes, with the highlight of strawberries, scones and cream, which were well enjoyed by all. See the pictures here of the cake and food for the celebration.
Once everyone had eaten sufficient, our Vice President, Ron Spraget took to the stage to present a speech which was very enjoyable and humorous, about his time with the Society, both as a member and as a serving committee member; he wished to thank the present committee for making the day such an outstanding success. To finish the day, both the secretary, Trevor Figg and Ron Spraget cut the specially made Jubilee cake, which was duly cut into pieces for everyone to enjoy, to mark the occasion.
